Residential Solar Solutions
Looking to get off the grid? Or perhaps for some backup power when the local utility can’t cut it? Or do you simply want to save some money every month from energy demanding assets, such as geysers, pool pumps, electric fencing, etc?
The ARTsolar Projects team can guide you to the best solution:

The option to choose if you want to be free of the grid. A complete off-grid solution comprises of solar panels to produce electricity during the day, batteries to store the produced electricity for use at night, a solar inverter and charge controller to convert the electricity for use in your home and to charge the batteries, and an optional generator, should you be stuck for days without enough sun to charge your batteries.
This is the costliest option, since batteries are an expensive investment and need to be replaced at certain intervals depending on the battery type:
- GEL / AGM Deep Cycle Battery: replace every 4 to 8 years depending on usage.
- Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery: replace every 8 to 16 years depending on usage.

Using more electricity during the day and want to save costs? Then a grid-tied solution may be the correct option for you. Comprising of solar panels and a grid-tied solar inverter (and an optional generator should you require electricity during a power-loss situation at night). The grid-tied solution supplements your power draw from the grid with solar power, with the potential to substantially decrease long term utility costs.
The grid-tied solution comes with no power storage (no batteries), thus there is no backup power in the event of a power-loss situation (other than a backup generator). However, your initial investment is substantially lower, and batteries, together with a charge controller, can always be added in later.
To design an effective solution, our team will need to monitor your electricity usage over a 7 day period by installing a meter into your home’s distribution box.

A hybrid solution is a combination of an off-grid and on-grid system. Combining the potential to substantially decrease daytime utility costs in the long term, with the peace of mind of having backup power during a power-loss situation.
Since the aim of a hybrid system is not to go completely off-grid, but rather to provide power to appliances that are in constant use during the day, the investment into this type of solar solution is typically less than an off-grid solution, but more than a grid-tied solution. A hybrid system also typically comes with less power storage, as the aim is to only provide enough backup power for power-loss situations, which on average only last a couple of hours.
